Capel Sounds Kindergarten is proud to offer Two funded Kindergarten programs, delivered by qualified teachers and support educators. Both Three and Four-Year-Old Kindergarten operates Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Families have the benefit of accessing the child care services before and after the Kindergarten program. Children attending Kindergarten are required to attend a minimum of 2 days per week to meet the governments 600 hours throughout the year, but are able to attend up to five days per week.

Educators establish and maintain trusting relationships with children and their families. Educators support children’s emotional needs- helping them develop a strong sense of well-being and belonging. It is very important for educators to teach about kindness and respect- how to be kind to yourself, to others and to the environment. It is our responsibility to nurture, teach and guide children in all aspects of learning and development. Educators foster children’s sense of wonder and enjoyment in their everyday lives and in the world around them. Educators are positive, happy, and fun to be around. Educators cheer children on and advocate for their rights.

The Child and their Families

We believe that children are creative, imaginative and capable people. Each child is an individual, with their own unique personalities and abilities. They have the capacity and the right to have a say in their own lives in matters that affect them. They also have big ideas about what goes on in the world and are encouraged to share what they know and think with others. As well as learning from the adults around them, children learn from each other so they definitely learn in a social context. Children are trusted and respected.

The family is the child’s first teacher and know their child best. Children’s values and personalities are shaped by their family. We constantly strive to form and maintain open communication with families which is based on respect- to share information about their child and also so they feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and ideas about their child’s education. Families hopefully feel that we are in a collaborative relationship with them- this is an ongoing relationship, and a vital one for the children to reach their full potential in our service.

The Environment

The Kindergarten's are delivered in a beautiful centre that provides children a calm and engaging place to learn, develop and have fun. The environment is like a second home for the children, a familiar, warm and inviting space for the children to imagine, create and relax in. There are spaces where the children can learn individually and in groups, through play and exploration. The environment offers a variety of experiences which cater for the differing needs and abilities for the children. It gives the children opportunities to be able to choose what materials they need for their projects.

The Curriculum

Our curriculum is heavily based on the world experienced by the child such as the environment and nature, we use our local surrounds to learn and explore. The curriculum gives the children a chance to learn what they are interested in. It promotes self-confidence and develops persistence skills.

First Nation cultures are weaved throughout the curriculum. Interactions and relationships are at the heart of what we do at kinder. The curriculum supports all areas of the children’s development and is presented in an interesting, interactive and thought-provoking manner. Curriculum, Interactions and relationships are at the heart of what we do at kinder.

Out and About Program

A big part of our Kindergarten program is our 'Out and About' program. Once or twice a week we take the children out into the community and explore the beautiful environment that the Peninsula offers. This program enriches the children's learning by giving them opportunities to learn in the great outdoors, and as qualified experienced educators we provide stimulating possibilities for the children to engage in these unique learning environments. Some areas that we visit include: The Beach - where the children are free to explore the natural beauty of our bay. Capel Sounds Foreshore - where the children can explore the bush surroundings and climb trees. The Wetlands - where children are able to keep track of the different fauna and flora that grows and how it changes with the different seasons. Tootgarook Oval - where we will often set up challenging physical tasks to develop their Gross Motor abilities and co-ordination.
